Three public high schools in New Jersey’s 18th Legislative District are regarded among the Top 5 percent nationally and among the 50 best in the state, according to U.S. News & World Report’s latest rankings, which were released today.

The publication ranked Edison Academy Magnet School – formerly known as Middlesex County Academy for Science, Mathematics and Engineering Technologies – the state’s second-best public high school and 42nd best in the country.

John P. Stevens (27th in the state) and Metuchen (47th in the state) were also ranked among New Jersey’s top high schools and in the nation’s Top 5 percent.

“I am extremely proud of all the schools in our legislative district and especially impressed to see three of our public high schools ranked among the best in the nation and state,” said Senator Patrick Diegnan, who represents the 18th Legislative District.

“Their performance reflects the commitment and skill of our educators, as well as the dedication of our students and the support of their parents.”

U.S. News & World Report reviewed nearly 25,000 public high schools across all 50 states and the District of Columbia for its rankings. The publication ranked 349 New Jersey public high schools and compared them with 17,306 others nationally.

The ranking methodology included college readiness, college curriculum breadth, state assessment proficiency, state assessment performance, underserved student performance, and graduation rate.
